Who is Jesus Cares

Jesus Cares Ministry is a Christian Charity that has been operating in the inner city of Sydney since 1987. The ministry started through the vision of John Jones (still involved in the ministry), who came to know that there were young people as young as 10 years of age on the streets of Sydney.
The ministry started in a coffee shop in Kings Cross. We now run a ministry food van around the streets of the inner city, as well as reaching out at Lakemba in Southwest Sydney on Thursdays to a predominately multicultural community.

 How are we organised?

Jesus Cares is not affiliated with any church but is a volunteer interdenominational Christian charitable organisation. Our volunteers and supporters come from a range of backgrounds across the whole body of Christ with all having a common heart for the poor, the homeless, the needy and the vulnerable. We are registered as a Charity and are an incorporated association, provide tax deductibility for donors and are registered with the Australian Not for Profits Commission.

 How are we funded?

Jesus Cares does not receive any Government funding and relies upon donations from our supporters, be they, churches, business, or individuals. We also run a fundraising dinner annually.

How do we go about it?

Our approach is through what we call one to one ministry. We reach out to anyone in need, offering not only food but love and acceptance without condemnation.
Jesus Cares has been in existence for over 30 years, and it continues today to love and serve those who feel unloved, to give hope to those who feel hopeless and befriend those who feel friendless. We believe that only through a life-changing experience of knowing Jesus as their Lord and Saviour will those we serve be really set free from their current circumstances and find a new life. Thanks to God’s Word, we see many people coming out of poverty, finding a new purpose, as well as a home and work.

How do we help people in practical ways?

There are many aspects of our work where we need the assistance of other agencies. We are operating on the front line where we meet people on the streets. They may need a drug rehabilitation program, they may need emergency accommodation, they may need an ambulance.

 Your involvement

Being involved with Jesus Cares can be addictive. We have great fellowship amongst the volunteers; a sense of belonging to something different. We believe we go where Jesus would go. We gather every week according to your availability , prepare food, share a meal together, pray and sing together.
We believe that we are Jesus’ feet and hands, brothers and sisters working together for His glory. We believe that we provide food and shelter in this world, but most importantly we believe that by telling the Good News of Jesus is the message that gives the Spiritual food and the eternal shelter in Heaven.

To present the good news of Jesus Christ that is life-changing and relevant while expressing His love to those we serve through love, obedience, trust, acceptance and compassion.

The Bible is the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

There is one God, existent in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His shed blood for the remission of sins, in His resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return in power and glory.

Salvation is found only through Jesus Christ and requires individuals to acknowledge their sin, accept His forgiveness and repent.

The salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, indwelling in every believer, that enables them to live a godly life.

The resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto eternal separation from God.

The spiritual unity of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ established the church to carry out His ministry here on earth.
